OK I have played some of your cool games and noticed ninja like moves in them. How do you guys make punches that effect enemies?
And how do you guys make all of your standard background images?
I have all the latest stuff including Microsoft Office 08. _________________ Do not stray from the warriors path, that you may one day become the prey. |

For punches, make the projectile invisible and set the delay before automatic detonation to a very low value. The player's attack animation should be a punch. Now set the blue projectile box on the frame to the fist of the player on the frame you want him to attack on.
I draw all my backgrounds and sprites in Photoshop Elements, but try pixen for something similar but free.

Errr...
I'd advise against using pixen against anything as large as a background
(can you say: Lag? )
Gimp is probably a better bet.

I use Photoshop for everything though. |

Pixen, is, in all honesty, a piece of crap
like, it's not a bad program, for sure, but it's SOOOO laggy, I've never tried Gimp though
although yes, it is evil and I will burn, I ended up Torrenting fireworks because of pixen... _________________ Smile

Like mentioned above, just make projectiles vanish after a couple of ticks.
As far as visuals, having that you need a art program of some type as a system requirement was a great idea, as you do. Office will be about as useless as iWork for the task.
Also, if you find that you don't have the graphical talent to conjure something up, take a look here. _________________ http://www.cobrablade.com |

i started with painter IX then moved unto the photoshop bandwagon.
Right now I'm making my backgrounds in ZBrush (well.. as soon as I get my mac shipped back to the UK) to be coloured in in PHotoshop and I'm verrry happy with the results so far..
if you want to make melee attacks take care with you're detonation/attack range/size of explosion (forget what its called)
if its very large the player (or enemies) can punch someone from a distance |
